Committed to the development of each student as an individual, Xavier has a fine record of Pastoral Care of students under the leadership of the Assistant Principal and House Coordinators.
Students are allocated to a House when they enrol at Xavier and remain in that House with the same Coordinator whilst at the school. All family members join the same House which consists of around 90 students from Years 7 to 12.
There are four Homerooms in each House and each consists of around twenty three students also from Years 7 to 12. Homerooms meet each day and form the basis for Pastoral Care, administration, sport and cultural competitions, service, academic and liturgical activities.
There is an emphasis on senior students providing leadership for juniors. In many ways Homeroom and the House become a students ‘school family’. Each student is cared for through this structure and the House Coordinator becomes the school contact person for parents.
The Houses at Xavier are a reminder of the history of the School. Rice is named after Blessed Edmund Rice, founder of the Christian Brothers, Joseph after St Joseph’s Ladies’ College, McAuley reminds us of Mother Catherine McAuley, Foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, Aquinas after Aquinas College, Clark after Mrs Thelma Clark, the first lay teacher at St Joseph’s Ladies’ College, Dynan after Br Dynan, the pioneer Principal of Aquinas College, Loreto was one of the House names of St Joseph’s Ladies’ College and MacKillop is named after Blessed Mary MacKillop the foundress of the Sisters of St Joseph, a passionate educationalist and likely to be the first Australian Saint.
